What’s happening in Hobart in October?

We’ve been awfully silent lately, just doing things in the background updating Long Beach House apartments. So this post is delayed and not fully complete with all that happening in Hobart this month, but still great to see most of the events in one place.

The Popular Mechanicals

Shakespeare’s greatest clowns—the rude mechanicals from A Midsummer Night’s Dream— take centrestage in this wild reimagining of what might have happened off-stage during the Bard’s most loved comedy.

Ashkar + Beethoven

Commencing with a meltingly beautiful episode for the soloist, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 4 is a poetic meditation for piano and orchestra that strikes a perfect balance between the tender and the brilliant. Palestinian-Israeli pianist Saleem Ashkar, a Beethoven interpreter of distinction, appears with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra for the first time in this concert.

An Inconvenient Woman

On Australia Day, 2009, Bob Chappell went missing from his yacht Four Winds. On 20 August his partner of 20 years, Susan Neill-Fraser, was arrested for his murder. With no body, no forensic evidence connecting the accused and no clear motive presented, the case has divided the public and raised much conjecture in and outside the courtrooms of Tasmania and beyond.

Royal Hobart Show

A country, agricultural lifestyle is the basis for the Royal Hobart Show, so you’ll find various competitive events based on animal livestock and pets, as well as live entertainment, fashion shows and endless parades, a show circus; there is something for everybody. Fireworks are held on Friday and Saturday is the family day. Exhibits include educational, engaging and entertaining offerings such as bee keeping, butter making, sheep shearing, cow milking, interactive children’s activities, cake baking demonstrations and classes, adult and youth art, all the traditional farm animal competitions, show jumping, equestrian events and the best vintage machinery display in Australia.

Tasmanian White Wine Weekend

Sample some of Tasmania’s finest wines at the White Wine Weekend. The event includes wineries and vineyards from throughout Tasmania.
